Fitbod alternative Gym Commitment vs Fitbod

Open Fitbod and today's workout is already chosen by its own AI, from your goals, your equipment and how your last sessions went. Gym Commitment gives you the whole week instead. ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini writes it, and if Thursday falls apart you change it with one sentence.

Quick verdict

Two very different AI plans.

Go with Gym Commitment if

  • You want to see Monday through Friday before you've lifted anything.
  • ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini is already open on your phone most days.
  • Last time's numbers on every set matter to you, and so does seeing your week on a body figure.

Go with Fitbod if

  • You'd like to walk in at 6 a.m. and find today's workout already picked.
  • Fitbod's non-linear periodization appeals to you more than a fixed block of weeks.
  • Your Pixel Watch, Strava or Fitbit needs to see every workout.

What Gym Commitment does differently

The plan comes from your AI.

Play mode in Gym Commitment: one set on its own screen, the weight and reps big, and last time's numbers under them. Sample data.
  1. Bring your own AI

Linking takes one short code from the app, pasted into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Before writing a single exercise, it asks which days you train and what your gym has, one question per message. Then the plan shows up on your phone. You won't be copying it out of a chat window into your notes app.

  2. A plan you can read

Look the whole plan over before you keep it, then follow it set by set. If the plan bumps your squat by 2.5 kg for next week, the summary at the end of the workout tells you.

  3. Change it in one sentence

Thursday got busy? Tell your AI “make Thursday shorter” and the new version replaces the old one in the app. You can also leave it a note on a lift, like “No machine here”. It reads the note with your next change.

  4. A look back at 12 weeks

When you feel like it, share your last 12 weeks with your AI. It writes back a short report with three changes it would make to your plan. Only that report, or the finished plan, ever reaches your phone.

  5. No account

There's no sign-up screen. You open the app and log a set. If you ever want your data somewhere else, every session and set exports as a CSV.

  6. The muscles you skipped

A body figure lights up the sets each muscle got, for a routine or for the week so far. The weekly, monthly and yearly reports show which body parts you skipped. Usually it's legs.

What Fitbod does better

Where Fitbod is ahead.

  • Workouts with no assistant to set up

Fitbod builds each session for you from your fitness level and your equipment. There's no AI of your own to connect.

  • Workouts that adapt on their own

Its AI varies and balances your exercises, learns from your edits and uses non-linear periodization. A Gym Commitment plan changes when you ask your AI for a new version, not before.

  • A large exercise library

The exercise videos are shot from several angles, with detailed instructions. It isn't only strength either: there's cardio, mobility and exercises that are safe during pregnancy.

  • More integrations and watches

Fitbod talks to Apple Health, Strava and Fitbit, and works with Apple Watch and, per its Google Play listing, with Wear OS. Gym Commitment's watch app is Apple Watch only.

  • Trainers and a big following

Fitbod's trainers answer strength questions by email. The app also has more than 280,000 App Store ratings, averaging 4.8, and an Editors' Choice award.

Moving over from Fitbod

Your first week in Gym Commitment.

  1. Download Gym Commitment from the App Store or Google Play and skip the sign-up, because there isn't one.

  2. Connect your AI, then describe your Fitbod weeks to it, something like “Mondays and Thursdays, keep the Romanian deadlifts and the incline press”. It writes the plan and sends it to Gym Commitment.

  3. Log your first workout. From the second one on, every set opens with what you did last time.

  4. Your Fitbod history stays in Fitbod. Trying this costs you nothing you've logged.

Questions

Before you switch.

Is Gym Commitment a good Fitbod alternative?

It is if you'd rather talk your plan through with your own AI and then follow it set by set. If you want the app to decide each workout for you, with nothing to set up, stick with Fitbod.

How is a plan from my AI different from Fitbod's AI?

Fitbod picks your workout fresh each time you train. In Gym Commitment you see all four training days at once (or three, or five), written by your assistant after it has asked about your week and your gym. Want Wednesday gone? Say so, and the plan updates. This page shows it step by step.

Can I bring my Fitbod history across?

Your logged workouts stay in Fitbod. What you can bring is the shape of them: tell your AI the days and lifts you liked, and they'll be in the new plan.

Does Gym Commitment work on Android and Apple Watch?

Yes. Android phones get the same app as iPhones, minus the watch part. With an Apple Watch you can run the whole workout from your wrist (start, tick sets, fix a weight, finish) as long as your iPhone is within reach. The Apple Watch page has every screen.

Do I need a paid AI?

For some assistants, yes, and a few aren't available in every country. The setup page has the list. You can still log every set without one.
