Strong app alternative Gym Commitment vs Strong
Both are plain gym logs: routines, sets, a rest timer, graphs. Strong stops there, on purpose. Gym Commitment adds a plan from your own ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and a body figure of the muscles you've trained.
- No account to make
- iPhone and Android
- Works without an AI too
“simple yet powerful”App Store review, India

Quick verdict
Two plain logs. One has an AI on call.
Go with Gym Commitment if
- You'd like your own AI to write the plan, and fix it when your week changes.
- Making an account for a gym log feels like overkill.
- You want to see skipped muscles on a body figure. Usually it's legs.
Go with Strong if
- A log and nothing else is exactly what you want, with routines you write yourself.
- Your iPhone stays in the locker while the Apple Watch logs the workout.
- You lean on a plate calculator and a warm-up calculator at the bar.

What lifters say about Gym Commitment
Great little app with lots of room for future potential. Simple to understand without gimmicky features like all the other apps. Responsive team

Was useful to log in progress and have a good visual of which body muscle groups are being targeted/trained.

Log your next workout in Gym Commitment.
No account to make, and the AI part is optional.
What Gym Commitment does differently
The same log, with a plan on call.

Bring your own AI
Linking takes one short code from the app, pasted into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Before writing a single exercise, it asks which days you train and what your gym has, one question per message. Then the plan shows up on your phone. You won't be copying it out of a chat window into your notes app.
Change it in one sentence
Thursday got busy? Tell your AI “make Thursday shorter” and the new version replaces the old one in the app. You can also leave it a note on a lift, like “No machine here”. It reads the note with your next change.
Ready-made routines too
Don't want an AI involved? There are ready-made routines for a full gym, for dumbbells only, for machines only and for home with no kit at all. Or build your own split, day by day.
The muscles you skipped
A body figure lights up the sets each muscle got, for a routine or for the week so far. The weekly, monthly and yearly reports show which body parts you skipped. Usually it's legs.
No account
There's no sign-up screen. You open the app and log a set. If you ever want your data somewhere else, every session and set exports as a CSV.
Small things at the rack
The weight column tells you if a number means one dumbbell or the bar plus plates. Someone on your machine? Swap the exercise. Skip it today and it's still in the plan next week.
What Strong does better
Where Strong is ahead.
Nothing but the log
Strong is built to stay out of your way. Your routines, your sets, a timer and your numbers, with no distractions.
The watch on its own
Strong's Apple Watch app logs a workout with or without your iPhone. Gym Commitment's watch app needs the iPhone nearby.
Calculators at the bar
A plate calculator for when the weights get heavy, and a warm-up calculator that tells you what to warm up with.
Body measurements and backup
Strong keeps your body weight and other measurements alongside Apple Health, and its Cloud Sync keeps a backup of everything.
Years of lifters behind it
More than 100,000 App Store ratings, averaging 4.9, and it comes in 11 languages. Gym Commitment is the new one here.
Moving over from Strong
Your first week in Gym Commitment.
Download Gym Commitment from the App Store or Google Play and skip the sign-up, because there isn't one.
Bring your routine. Tell your AI the routine you run in Strong (or paste it in) and ask for it as a Gym Commitment plan. Or build it day by day in the app.
Log your first workout. From the second one on, every set opens with what you did last time.
Your Strong history stays put, and you can export it there as a CSV anytime.
Questions
Before you switch.
Is Gym Commitment a good Strong alternative?
Yes, if you like a plain log and want a plan from your own AI on top of it. If you log on an Apple Watch without your iPhone, though, Strong does that and Gym Commitment doesn't.
Can an AI write my plan in Strong?
Strong's App Store listing describes a log for routines you add yourself, and it doesn't mention an AI. In Gym Commitment, your ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini writes the plan and sends it to the app. See how it works.
Can I bring my Strong routines?
Yes. Tell your AI the routine, or paste it in, and ask for it as a plan in Gym Commitment. Your Strong history stays in Strong.
Does Gym Commitment work on Android and Apple Watch?
Yes. Android phones get the same app as iPhones, minus the watch part. With an Apple Watch you can run the whole workout from your wrist (start, tick sets, fix a weight, finish) as long as your iPhone is within reach. The Apple Watch page has every screen.
Do I need a paid AI?
For some assistants, yes, and a few aren't available in every country. The setup page has the list. You can still log every set without one.
