The apps
One by one.
Gym Commitment
Best for: Your own AI writing the plan
- You talk to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini the way you already do, and the plan it writes lands in the app. If Thursday falls apart later, one sentence fixes it.
- Every set opens with last time's numbers. A body figure shows the sets each muscle got this week.
- No account, and if you'd rather not use an AI at all, the ready-made routines work fine on their own.
We're new, so don't expect a big community yet. The watch app also needs your iPhone nearby.
Hevy
Best for: Training with friends
- Your friends' workouts show up in a feed you can like and comment on, and your gym has leaderboards.
- Each exercise shows last session's weights and reps, with supersets, drop and failure sets and rest timers built in.
- Hevy Trainer builds programs inside the app with its paid plan, and Hevy also has an app inside ChatGPT that writes plans into your account.
You sign in to a Hevy account, which follows you to any phone.

Strong
Best for: A plain log and nothing else
- You write your own routines. It handles the rest timer and lets you tag warm-up, drop and failure sets.
- There are graphs for volume and estimated 1RM, plus a plate calculator and a warm-up calculator.
- Leave the iPhone in the locker if you like: its Apple Watch app logs the workout either way.
We couldn't find anything about AI or ready-made programs in its listing.

Fitbod
Best for: An app that builds each workout
- Give it your goal and the kit in your gym, and it chooses each day's workout. Swap out a lift it picked and it takes that into account next time.
- Its exercise videos are filmed from more than one angle. It's not only lifting, either: cardio and mobility are in there too.
- If your runs live in Strava or your steps in Fitbit, Fitbod connects to both, and to Apple Health.
Good for the mornings you'd rather not think about what to train.

JEFIT
Best for: A big exercise library and an adaptive plan
- Its exercise library is big, with HD video instructions, and it comes with bodybuilding programs you can follow straight away.
- There's an AI-adjusted plan, and before your next set it suggests a weight and a rep target.
- You get charts for volume and sets per muscle, a muscle map, a recovery chart and body measurements.

Boostcamp
Best for: Following a named program
- If you already know you want to run 5/3/1, GZCLP, nSuns, PHUL or the Reddit PPL, they're all in there, next to plans from coaches.
- There's also an AI coach that will draft a multi-week plan if you give it your goal, your schedule and your equipment.
- For logging it tracks RPE, RIR and estimated 1RM, handles auto-progression, and has a plate calculator. Live Activities put the workout on your lock screen.
No Apple Watch app that we could see in its listing, and it's English only.

StrongLifts
Best for: Running 5x5 on a barbell, three days a week
- It plans every exercise, set and weight of the 5x5 program and adds weight for you as you go.
- Timers and progress charts are included, and it's available in 20 languages.
It's built around that one program, so pick something else if you want a different one.
Its listing: App StoreGoogle Play
FitNotes
Best for: A simple log on Android
- Swiping moves you between days, and the calendar takes you straight to a date. Sets can carry notes.
- The rest timer has sound and vibration. While you're logging an exercise, your earlier sessions with it are right there.

What lifters say about Gym Commitment
Great little app with lots of room for future potential. Simple to understand without gimmicky features like all the other apps. Responsive team

Was useful to log in progress and have a good visual of which body muscle groups are being targeted/trained.

How we picked
Fair, even where we lose.
- We make Gym Commitment, so it is first. The other seven are the trackers lifters ask about most when they compare apps.
- Every fact about another app comes from its own App Store or Google Play listing, read on 5 November 2026. Each one is linked.
- We left prices out. They change, and they differ by country.
- Where another app does something better than ours, we say so.
Questions
Before you pick one.
What is the best workout tracker app?
There isn't a single winner. If you want your own AI writing the plan, that's Gym Commitment. If your friends post their sessions and you want to see them, Hevy. For a bare log it's Strong, for an app that decides each workout it's Fitbod, and for running 5/3/1 or GZCLP it's Boostcamp.
Which workout tracker works with ChatGPT?
Gym Commitment does, and so do Claude and Gemini: you connect one once with a code from the app. Hevy has its own app inside ChatGPT that saves plans to your Hevy account. See how it works in Gym Commitment.
Which workout tracker is best for Apple Watch?
If you want to leave the phone in the locker, Strong, because its watch app logs a workout with or without the iPhone. Gym Commitment, Hevy, Fitbod, JEFIT and StrongLifts have Apple Watch apps too. Ours needs the iPhone nearby. The Apple Watch page shows it, screen by screen.
Which workout trackers work on Android?
All eight are on Android. If you wear a Wear OS watch, Hevy and Fitbod are the two with watch apps for it.
Do I need a paid AI for Gym Commitment?
For some assistants, yes, and a few aren't available in every country. The setup page has the list. You can still log every set without one.
